Frequently Asked Questions in Des Plaines, IL

Des Plaines Porta Pros handles over 12 different rental types for construction sites, events and residential properties. We answer the questions we hear most often here. If you need something specific, call us or request a quote.

How many portable toilets do I need?

OSHA 1926.51(c) sets the baseline: 1 toilet facility for 20 workers or fewer on a construction site. From 20 to 200 workers, you need 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. At 200 or more, it's 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers. Your exact count depends on the job length, shift schedule and whether workers have access to other facilities. The Des Plaines Porta Pros team can help you calculate it. Read our guide to how many porta potties you need for the full math.

What sizes and types do you rent?

We stock standard porta potty units with 60 to 70 gallon holding tanks, roughly 44 by 48 inches on the ground and 92 inches tall. Deluxe flushable models are roomier and smell better. ADA accessible units meet ADA Standards section 213.2 so at least 5 percent of your cluster is accessible. We also rent restroom trailers in 2, 4 and 8 stall sizes, roll-off dumpsters, storage containers, temporary fencing, and handwashing stations. Placement on your site needs about 60 feet of straight clearance behind the delivery truck. We serve Des Plaines and the surrounding area.

What does weekly service include?

One service visit per week is the baseline interval under ANSI/PSAI Z4.3. During each visit, we pump out the tank, restock toilet paper and hand sanitiser, and clean the interior. Check our rental pricing for daily, weekend, weekly and monthly rates. A single rental stays on-site as long as you need it. We deliver and pick up. Des Plaines customers call us first because we understand the job and we're close.

How much does a porta potty cost per day?

Daily rental rates for a standard unit run 100 to 350 dollars, depending on duration and how long you keep it. Delivery and service fees apply separately. See the full cost breakdown to compare weekly and monthly options.

What's the difference between standard and deluxe?

Deluxe flushable units have a fresh-water flush, better ventilation and a roomier interior. They cost more per day but feel less industrial. Standard units work fine for most construction sites. Both sit on a 60 to 70 gallon tank.

Do I need an ADA accessible porta potty?

If your site is open to the public or hosts employees with disabilities, yes. ADA accessible units have a 36 inch minimum clear width under ADA Standards section 403.5.1, a 32 inch door opening under ADA Standards section 404.2.3, and a 60 inch turning circle under ADA Standards section 304.3.1. If you're clustered units at one location, at least one must be accessible.

When do I need a handwashing station?

OSHA 1926.51(f)(1) requires handwashing stations where employees apply paints, coatings, herbicides or insecticides. Portable sinks must supply soap and towels or a hand drying device under 29 CFR 1910.141(d)(2). Hand sanitiser alone doesn't meet the rule. For general construction work in Des Plaines, a standard porta potty with soap covers most needs.

How often should I pump my septic tank?

A residential septic tank is typically pumped every 3 to 5 years, driven by tank size and household size. Grease interceptors are pumped when fats, oils, grease and solids reach 25 percent of the liquid depth. If you're unsure, call for emergency septic service or schedule regular septic pumping.
